“We have seen the future. It wears a bikini.” That’s what one thunderstruck reporter wrote after Kerri Walsh (30) and Misty May-Treanor (31), two California girls, vanquished the Chinese beach volleyball team to win Olympic gold in Beijing.
Walsh and May met as teenagers, when Walsh asked her idol, May, for an autograph. In 2001 they decided to team up, and since then they have not only reached the top of the sport—they’ve taken it to a new level. They are the only beach volleyball players to win back-to-back gold medals, in Athens and Beijing, and did so without losing a single set.
Both attribute their friendship and “will win” attitude to their history making career of 112 straight wins.
Wow!

We love Kefir’s on-the-go snack: ProBugs Organic Whole Milk.
Kefir is a fermented milk which contains a unique mixture of several live microorganisms. Lifeway Kefir is highly digestible and due to its acidity and enzymes, it stimulates digestion of other foods and contains a huge quantity of lactic bacteria, which inhibit putrefactive and pathogenic microbes. It tastes similar to th
ose yogurt smoothie drinks, but until recently you could only buy it in large bottles.
ProBugs comes in convenient no-spill containers that are perfect in lunches or in the car. Not only is it high in protein and calcium, it has added inulin for optimum calcium absorption. Plus it has 10 live and active cultures (most yogurts have 2 or 3) to aid in kid’s digestion and keep their immune system healthy.
We love its easy-to-grip shape and patented no-spill spout.
ProBugs is available at grocery stores nationwide, including Whole Foods and Target.

Linley Hall in Victoria was transformed overnight into “Stella’s Gym,” complete with Olympic athletes including Allyson Felix and Victoria Pendleton—at the launch of Stella McCartney’s Spring 2009 Adidas collection. I love the hem and high waist of the muted pink tennis outfit above. Stylish, flirty, yet still functional.
The collection spans running, gym, yoga, dance, tennis, golf, swimwear, and accessories, all characterized by a sharp eye for fashion detail and, this season, popping with neon pinks, grass green, yellow, and periwinkle blue. In one corner were gymnasts performing on the balance beam in leotards and yoga sweats; in another, the tennis team knocked balls about in scalloped-edge dresses over orange shorts. Elsewhere, runners warmed up on treadmills wearing high-tech spray-painted leggings. McCartney’s personal trainer, Tracy Anderson (the woman behind Madonna’s and Gwenyth Paltrow’s killer bodies) has consulted on the development of McCartney’s gym line.

While some athletes (think Michael Phelps) may fuel their body with 12,000 calories a day not all Olympians get to indulge their cravings.
Olympic Gold Medalist, Nastia Liukin shares that gymnasts eat totally different. At Badgley Mischka’s Spring 2009 fashion show on Sept. 12 in New York City, Liukin shares with People Magazine, that her daily intake may be closer to 1,200 calories.
A typical breakfast is “eggs or yogurt or oatmeal,” said Liukin, 18, who took the gold for the individual all-around in Beijing. “Then for lunch I’ll have a salad with chicken or fish or some sort of protein and then for dinner I keep it really light with probably just a piece of fish and vegetables.”
That lean combo is just enough “to keep me energized,” she said, “but I do have a few power bars before my practices.”
So how has life changed since Beijing? Getting photographed all the time, “is really different,” said Liukin, who hit three shows during New York’s fashion week, possibly gathering inspiration for the line of gymnastics leotards she is designing.
“When I’m performing and I get photographed I don’t see anything because I’m so focused on what I’m doing. Now, it’s crazy being here, but it’s been a lot of fun and I’m definitely enjoying this experience.”
No wonder the Olympic darling is so thin!

41-year-old four time Olympian Dara Torres walked in the show holding daughter Tessa Grace (2). Dara is six feet tall. All I can say is “wow!” Look at those arms and legs…
Dara won three silver medals in Beijing. She was also the first female athlete to appear in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in 1994.
That is one fit Mamma! Great article on Dara at Women’s Heath.
Charles Nolan’s Spring 2009 is a bit boring, but still very wearable for day-to-day Moms.
