Must Have: JANIS by Janis Savitt

Love Janis Savitt’s arm candy.

Her beautiful 18-karat yellow gold-plated brass bracelet is simple yet noteworthy.

Savitt was born and raised in New York City. The daughter of an artist father and a fashion savvy mother, she spent her childhood immersed in fine arts, culture, and following the latest fashion trends. While still in high school, Janis originally fabricated pieces for Van Cleef and Arpels, Cartier, Henri Bendel, and Bloomingdales. Along with her sister Michelle, Janis built the renowned M&J Savitt, assuming her position as jewelry designer of the company.

Her skill and attention to detail are impressive. $400 from Neimen.

Badgley Mischka wow’d New York on December 10, 2008 with their breathtaking Pre-Fall 2009 collection. The dresses were stunning and beautiful -  beaded, paillette, and feather-dusted cocktail dresses and gowns.

A sequined tank dress sashed high on the waist and a ruffled halter gown in the must-have shade of marigold were two highlights.

Isn’t this new cocktail suit (below)  incredible? Designers said that it was made specially at their customers’ requests.

Simply put, James Mischka shared, “we just did pretty clothes that people want to wear.”  And they did just that. It’s not fair that the ENTIRE collection is incredible.

“Oh Santa? I have a few more to add to my Christmas list….”

Fashion (Really) Rocks 2008

Last night (September 9, 2008) Fashion Rocks aired on CBS and this year it really did rock!

The music, fashion and celebrities were fabulous!

Justin Timberlake, Miley Cyrus and Charlize Theron were among the celebrities who appeared at the fifth annual Fashion Rocks concert celebrating the relationship between music and fashion.

They walked the red carpet Friday night at Radio City Music Hall amid a media circus angling for glamour shots of other stars including Fergie, Rihanna, Chris Brown and the “Gossip Girl” gang.

Where is The Love? Black Eyed Peas were dressed to impress. Their funky rendition of the Rolling Stones hit “Miss You” was terrific.   And fashion-wise,  will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie all came our smoking hot  and rocking the stage in their edgy and eclectic styles. It’s always great to see them perform.

Rihanna’s dress was GORGEOUS! A Monique Lhuillier Autumn 2008 ruffled strapless gown with a to-die-for jewelled belt.

Above: Charlize Theron is sexy in skin-tight leather-inspired pants and a men’s-inspired metallic blazer. Miley Cyrus is adorable in a short, fun, metallic frock and patent peep-toe pumps.

The beautiful Beyonce and Justin Timberlake rocked “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing” and Timberlake actually brought sexy back with his smooth voice, sweet moves, and uber sleek style to match.

Fashion Rocks  closed with featured singers - Singers Keyshia Cole, Leona Lewis. Fergie, Ciara, Mariah Carey, Beyonce, Mary J. Blige, Rihanna, Carrie Underwood, Miley Cyrus, Ashanti, Natasha Bedingfield, and Nicole Scherzinger singing “Just Stand Up” the bubbly worldwide  charity single benefiting Stand Up To Cancer. The song was created and produced by LA Reid and Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds.

41-year-old four time Olympian Dara Torres walked in the show holding daughter Tessa Grace (2).  Dara is six feet tall.  All I can say is “wow!” Look at those arms and legs…

Dara won three silver medals in Beijing.  She was also the first female athlete to appear in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue in 1994.

That is one fit Mamma! Great article on Dara at Women’s Heath.

Charles Nolan’s Spring 2009 is a bit boring, but still very wearable for day-to-day Moms.

A crispness, a hint of fall in the air today, prompted me to showcase one of my favorite designers.

Oscar de la Renta.

The Fall 2008 Ready to Wear collection graced Park Avenue in New York on  February 4, 2008, showcasing designs of impeccable taste for ladies young and old who are accustomed to nothing but the best.   With over 63 looks this season, there was something for everyone. Understated, unassuming yet still so striking.  That’s why we love this house so much.

Sticking to a classic silhouette (upper left) in a long and lean boiled cashmere jacket over full-cut flannel pants and a fun, playful ruffled blouse and skirt (upper right) illustrates collection’s versatility.

There’s no doubt that Oscar de la Renta is indisputably the greatest American designer in fashion history with over 40 years of classic lines, beautiful silhouettes and gorgeous details.

Love the wide deep plum  belt and the gold embroidery on an otherwise unassuming (by de la Renta standards) ensemble.

Running in Heels

Fashion, charity, running, heels….who would have thought?

Kelly Ripa was in New York City’s Central Park today to host the “Live with Regis and Kelly’s” High Heel-A-Thon to benefit the March of Dimes.

The race consisted of a 150-yard dash, with the competitors wearing three-inch high heels as they ran.

Five hundred women and eleven men from almost 40 states showed up to compete, with prizes awarded for first place ($25,000), second place ($5,000) and third place ($2,500).  Even the guys got a prize, with the men’s dash winner taking home $1,000.

What will they think of next?

I have to say that Kelly looks amazing and fit!
